The Miami Dolphins went into the first round of the 2023 NFL draft without a draft pick despite having two just a year ago.
Miami sent one of their selections (No. 29), which was originally received from the San Francisco 49ers, to the Denver Broncos at last year’s trade deadline for outside linebacker Bradley Chubb. The other pick (No. 21) was forfeited due to tampering charges with former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
With the league skipping over Miami’s selection, the Los Angeles Chargers made the 21st overall pick, and they selected TCU wide receiver Quentin Johnston.
The Dolphins likely wouldn’t have brought in Johnston, considering they already have Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Cedrick Wilson, Braxton Berrios, Chosen Anderson, Erik Ezukanma, River Cracraft, Freddie Swain and Braylon Sanders on the roster at this point. However, there were plenty of talented players that general manager Chris Grier could’ve selected to improve the roster, including both top tight ends, Michael Mayer and Dalton Kincaid.
