Jets, Packers ‘re-engaged’ in Aaron Rodgers trade talks

The talks are back on with just days until the draft.

The Jets and Packers are back in action working on trade talks, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Rapoport says a deal is not imminent but the teams hope a deal can be reached this week, which just so happens to be the week of the draft.

Draft compensation has been the sticking point with the Packers reportedly wanting a first-round pick, likely next year, while the Jets want to tie some conditions to the pick in case Rodgers does not play in 2024.

The likelihood continues to be that one of the Jets’ two second-round picks this year (Nos. 42 and 43) will head to Green Bay. It’s just a matter of figuring out the 2024 compensation. The draft has been looked at as the next, and perhaps last, checkpoint in these trade talks so that Green Bay can get a pick this season and the Jets can finally get their guy in the building.
