Ex-Boston head coach Ime Udoka to interview with Houston Rockets for head coaching gig

The Detroit Pistons and possibly also the Toronto Raptors have been tied to Udoka in recent weeks.

Former Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka might be helming an NBA basketball team again soon if a planned interview pans out for the Portland native.

According to The Athletic’s Kelly Iko, Udoka will interview Thursday for  Houston‘s vacant head coaching position. The Rockets parted ways with Stephen Silas after the regular season.

Udoka, who was suspended by the Celtics before the start of the 2022-23 season for an inappropriate relationship with a team employee, has kept a low profile since he was named a candidate for Brooklyn’s then-vacant head coaching gig at midseason.

The pushback on that from fans and analysts ultimately factored in the Nets opting for promoting assistant coach Jacque Vaughn to the head coach, but Udoka’s name has since been tied to several organizations.

The Detroit Pistons and possibly also the Toronto Raptors have been tied to Udoka in recent weeks.

The Rockets are reportedly also looking to interview Golden State Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson, ex-Los Angeles Lakers head coach Frank Vogel, former Charlotte Hornets coach James Borrego, Philadelphia 76ers assistant Sam Cassell, current Raptors coach Nick Nurse and Toronto assistant Adrian Griffin.
