The 2023 NFL draft is just nine days away as the 32 members of the league await one of the biggest events on the professional football schedule. Former Florida Gators quarterback [autotag]Anthony Richardson[/autotag] is among the most highly-sought players in the draft this year with the potential for becoming the highest-picked UF alumnus in the modern era.
The young signal-caller has been scrutinized from head to toe, ranging from last fall’s game tape to his superlative results at the NFL scouting combine. While his athleticism is unquestioned, he does have a few warts in his game that gives some a pause of caution.
When viewing the gestalt of Richardson’s attributes, one current professional player comes to mind in ESPN’s 2023 NFL draft prospect-to-pro matches. The staff determined that the Gainesville native compares most closely with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
It’s the upper-tier physical tools and playmaking traits at the QB position that stand out for me. Just like we saw when Allen was coming out of Wyoming, Richardson (Florida) has a powerful frame and outstanding arm strength, with the ability to produce on designed rushes and scrambles. — Matt Bowen, NFL analyst
Prospect-to-player comparisons give fans a sense of a player’s style of play, helping to better understand incoming prospects and how they project to the pro game. These comparisons are not an exact science, and in most cases, they do not project the same level of success as the NFLer — for better or worse.
