Former UNC forward Dontrez Styles commits to Georgetown

Former UNC basketball player Dontrez Styles has committed to Georgetown over East Carolina, NC State and West Virginia.

Another former UNC basketball player has found a new home after entering the transfer portal.

Forward Dontrez Styles is the fourth former Tar Heel to find a new home as he made his decision on Sunday. Styles took to Twitter to announce that he has committed to Georgetown after spending two seasons at North Carolina.

Styles drew a lot of interest in the transfer portal, entering shortly after the Tar Heels missed out on the NCAA Tournament. He took visits to NC State, Georgetown, and East Carolina while also drawing interest from West Virginia as well in his new recruitment.

The forward was one of two transfer recruits that new head coach Ed Cooley landed on Sunday. Shortly after Styles committed, the program also landed former Illinois guard Jayden Epps.

In two seasons at North Carolina, Styles averaged 1.8 points and 1.3 rebounds per game. He saw limited action in his freshman year and that continued into 2022-23 when it was expected Styles would see an increase in playing time.
