Bucs take Florida guard in new CBS Sports mock draft

O’Cyrus Torrence is considered one of the draft’s top guard prospects.

Tampa Bay’s needs at tackle have been well established for the NFL draft, but it’s possible they go with another position on the offensive line, too.

CBS Sports’ new mock draft written by Ryan Wilson has the Bucs taking Florida guard O’Cyrus Torrence. Torrence played at Louisiana before transferring to Florida his final year.

Here is what the mock said about Torrence:

O’Cyrus Torrence, who transferred from Louisiana, didn’t miss a beat in the SEC. He was dominant for Florida last fall, he was dominant during Senior Bowl practices, he was dominant at his pro day, and if history is any guide, he’ll be dominant in the NFL, too.

While it is true that Torrence has excelled in the pre-draft process so far, it may not be entirely wise for the Bucs to draft a guard this high. Left tackle remains the team’s biggest priority after the departure of Donovan Smith, and while it would be smart to draft a guard to help compete for the Bucs’ two open spots, it might be better to wait until the later rounds to make that happen.

Torrence is projected to be one of the top guards in the draft, however, so if the team did go that route, he wouldn’t be a bad option.
