Finally. We are finally going to see Andy Enfield with a roster which can reach great heights. Yes, Enfield had a generational talent, Evan Mobley, in the 2021 college basketball season, but that was not a complete team. It earned a No. 6 seed at the NCAA Tournament and did not start the season in the top 25 of the rankings. It was a good team, but not a great team. It had a very good March Madness run, but it was never ranked in the top 10.
This upcoming USC basketball team — with the return of Boogie Ellis — could crack the preseason top 10. It will almost certainly be in the preseason top 15.
This is without Bronny James. If Bronny decides to play for USC, the Trojans are going to be a preseason top-10 team.
We can all debate how good a coach Andy Enfield is, but so much of the criticism lobbed his way over the years has presumed that he has always had elite talent and doesn’t get much out of it.
No.
Enfield hasn’t had an elite roster with top-10 chops. We can say that Enfield hasn’t always maxed out his resources in a given season — the 2018 and 2020 teams were examples of that — but Enfield hasn’t had a complete roster with which he can make a serious run at a top-three NCAA Tournament seed and the Final Four.
He is about to have that kind of roster … and if Bronny James picks the Trojans, the 2024 roster will be that much better.
Andy Enfield and elite talent: the marriage is finally going to happen. We’ll see if any hearts are broken at the altar, or if a blissful union carries the Trojans to the 2024 Final Four.
We’ll obviously have more to say after the Bronny James decision, but Boogie Ellis has already changed the equation for USC hoops.
Andy Enfield will have a truly stacked roster. It will be the first time he has had one. We’re finally going to find out a few things about USC’s coach.
It should be fun. It definitely will be interesting.
