Draft buzz: Scouts, execs believe Jalen Carter will go to Seahawks or Bears

Will the talent of Carter outweigh his red flags?

The debate rages on with what the Seattle Seahawks should do with the No. 5 overall pick. While there are those who believe the Seahawks should invest in a top quarterback prospect, it would be a move for the future. A move to help Seattle compete this year would be to shore up their defensive line by drafting either Jalen Carter or Will Anderson.

Anderson seems to be the more NFL ready prospect, but Carter is regarded as perhaps the best defensive player available in the draft. However, plenty of red flags have popped up about Carter in recent weeks. Although, in the NFL, talent and potential often outweigh character concerns… and it might just be the case with the Seahawks.

According to an ESPN poll with league insiders, Carter will wind up going to either Seattle or Chicago.

“When asked to predict Carter’s landing spot, more than 10 scouts and execs polled believed he would be drafted at No. 5 (Seattle Seahawks) or No. 9 (Chicago Bears). And no one polled thought he would slip out of the top 10 picks.”

Carter is unlikely to fall out of the Top 10 because, as the article notes, the Philadelphia Eagles own the No. 10 pick. Since the Eagles lost defensive tackle Javon Hargrave to the San Francisco 49ers in free agency, they will surely look to replace his 11 sacks from last year.
