Diamond Heels snag series win over Georgia Tech

Diamond Heels win two out of three games to win the series against Georgia Tech.

The Diamond Heels snagged the series win against Georgia Tech before game three was played.

UNC traveled to Atlanta to take on the Yellow Jackets, playing all three games in two days due to weather conditions. Coming off a tough loss against South Carolina, where they failed to muster up a single run, UNC made sure they made up for it in a dominating way.

Game 1: UNC 10, Georgia Tech 1

Pitching was on full display for UNC, with Max Carlson dominating the game. Through seven innings, Carlson delivered eight strikeouts and one run. Meanwhile, the Tar Heels offense got hot with six runs in the fourth inning, giving the Yellow Jackets bullpen nightmares.

Game 2: UNC 10, Georgia Tech 6

In game two, Georgia Tech had better at-bats. However, despite scoring six runs, North Carolina still found a way to show dominance with a constant bat throughout the game. UNC scored two runs in the second inning and again in the third before exploding in the fourth inning with four.

Alberto Osuna continued his hot bat hitting his eighth homer of the season with a two-run blast in the seventh inning, officially clinching the series for UNC.

Game 3: UNC 4, Georgia Tech 8

Undoubtedly the Yellow Jackets did sting back game three, finding their groove early with five runs in the third inning. Georgia Tech followed up in the fifth inning with three more runs to give them complete control.

Despite UNC mustering up a run in the seventh inning, a comeback was never sight, with the Yellow Jackets buzzing to victory.

Both days were a hit party for the Tar Heels, finishing the series with 32 hits converting into 22 runs. They will look to keep the bats hot as they return on Tuesday to host Queen’s University.
