The Diamond Heels were in action Tuesday night, taking on the Gamecocks’ in the clash of the Carolina game in Charlotte.
The game was played in ideal weather with a pretty blue sky, but nothing was pretty for UNC as they would go scoreless in nine innings. However, they fought hard against South Carolina, going toe-for-toe on the mound and holding them to zero runs before the seventh inning.
In that inning, the Gamecocks broke the tie, scoring two runs, which ended up being the game-winning runs. From there, they would build on the lead and add some insurance runs.
The eighth inning was more of the same, with South Carolina adding three runs to eventually win 5-0.
UNC attempted to spark the same fireworks they did in its’ comeback against Notre Dame. However, the spark never got going, with South Carolina finishing the job in the ninth inning.
The Diamond Heels finished with a collective 4.57 ERA and only mustered six hits. The loss is a big blow to the team that has already slid on the USA Today Sports Coaching Poll.
UNC will be back in action Thursday as they travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech for another Atlantic Coast conference series.
