UNC basketball commit Ian Jackson reacts to Rick Pitino and St. John’s recent push in his recruitment.

UNC basketball commit [autotag]Ian Jackson[/autotag] has been in the news for much of the last month and it revolves around his pledge to the Tar Heels.

Jackson, who committed to North Carolina in January, has heard his name in rumors around a potential flip to St. John’s and newly hired head coach Rick Pitino.

Pitino was hired last month and immediately went after Jackson, a New York native and five-star guard. Soon after, Jackson reaffirmed his pledge to UNC.

Recently, Jackson spoke about the Pitino news and also made sure people knew that he was still committed to North Carolina.

“It means a lot, coach Pitino’s a great coach,” Jackson told ZagsBlog.com. “I appreciate him coming out, but as of right now my plan is to stay at North Carolina. He’s a legendary coach, so I appreciate him coming … him being coach Pitino, a legendary coach, so it means a lot.”

Pitino has visited Jackson twice in the last few weeks but his commitment to UNC remains firm.

Jackson is the No. 5 overall player and the No. 2 shooting guard in the 247Sports class of 2024 rankings.

Jackson is part of a phenomenal UNC class that is ranked No. 1 overall in the team rankings.
