Steelers to host Houston QB Clayton Tune for pre-draft visit

The Steelers leave the option open to draft a quarterback.

Despite the fact the Pittsburgh Steelers have their starter and backup quarterback for 2023, the front office is still leaving its options over to round out the depth chart via the NFL draft. According to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport, Pittsburgh will host Houston quarterback Clayton Tune for a pre-draft visit.

In studying Tune, a case can be made that he is the next-best quarterback in the draft after the top five guys. Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, Anthony Richardson and Will Levis are the clear top four with Hendon Hooker really alone in that second tier due to injury. But after that, everyone is in the mix and Tune will have suitors.

In terms of skills, Tune is a guy who does a little bit of everything but has no elite traits that really stand out. The Steelers need a third quarterback and Tune would be a nice option assuming some team doesn’t reach for him early thinking they are getting Brock Purdy 2.0.
