Blazers star Damian Lillard believes Joel Embiid should win MVP award

Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard believes Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid should win the MVP award.

The MVP debate continues to rage on with the 2022-23 season now down to the final countdown. The Philadelphia 76ers have five games left after knocking off the Toronto Raptors at home on Friday and the team’s focus is on getting ready for the playoffs, but the MVP debate continues to hang over their heads.

Joel Embiid is fully entrenched in the MVP race with averages of 33.0 points and 10.2 rebounds to lead the Sixers to success and he is in the running with Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets who is having another terrific season in the Mile High City.

Embiid has finished as the runner-up to Jokic in each of the previous two seasons, but Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard believes now is the time for Embiid to get one:

I think because he’s been the most dominant player all season long, his team is winning. I feel like he could have won it one of the last years, but I think Jokic won it both times. I just think because he’s been, to me, the most dominant player, and he’s been carrying his team, you can’t continue to give it to a guy who’s won it twice in a row. Especially, when you have a guy like him who’s performing at the same level or even higher.

Time will tell whether Embiid will finally get his MVP award, but he certainly has made a strong case to get one due to his strong play for the Sixers.
