Surprise! Arkansas guard Devo Davis declares for NBA draft

Devo Davis declared for the NBA Draft. Odds remain high he’ll be back with Hogs in 2023-24, anyway.

Arkansas guard Devo Davis’ name is tough to find on most NBA Draft projections. But after a season in which he broke through offensively, now was the time to strike.

Davis, a junior, declared for the NBA Draft on Friday via social media. The Arkansas native maintained the option to return to the Razorbacks. He has until June to make that decision.

Davis had been the best defender on the team since he arrived from Jacksonville High his freshman season. When Nick Smith Jr. was lost with a knee injury this year, Davis’ offensive skills showed. He finished averaging 10.9 points and 4.4 rebounds. He shot 34.6% from 3-point range.

His declaration made him the second Arkansas player to turn pro in as many days. Smith declared Thursday morning and is expected to be a high-to-mid first-round pick. Arkansas forward Trevon Brazile on Friday also announced he would return to the team for 2023-24.

Davis’ announcement was a bit of a surprise, though a return to Arkansas seems most likely, anyway.

The Razorbacks do still await decisions from freshman forward Jordan Walsh, junior guard Ricky Council and freshman guard Anthony Black.
