DeAndre Hopkins’ history with Bill O’Brien impeding possible deal with Patriots

The history between new Patriots OC Bill O’Brien reportedly is a problem in a possible deal to send Hopkins to New England.

The New England Patriots are one of the teams who have been reportedly in the running for acquiring wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Arizona Cardinals.

They were one of five teams that former NFL cornerback Pacman Jones, a friend of Hopkins, said could land him.

However, there is an obstacle.

According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, “it sounds like the history between Hopkins and new Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien is an impediment to his landing in New England.”

O’Brien, of course, was Hopkins’ head coach with the Houston Texans. O’Brien was the one to traded him to the Cardinals.

Hopkins went on to say after the trade that he had no relationship at all with O’Brien.

It would be an interesting dynamic to see how it plays out if a trade to New England were to happen, but it would appear that a deal there won’t happen.
