Four-star quarterback Jake Merklinger announced his commitment to Tennessee on Thursday.
He committed to the Vols over Georgia, Michigan State and North Carolina.
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound quarterback is from Calvary Day School in Savannah, Georgia.
Merklinger is the No. 66 overall prospect in the class of 2024. He ranks as the No. 7 quarterback and No. 9 player in Georgia, according to the On3 rankings.
As a junior in 2022, Merklinger recorded 1,987 passing yards and 32 passing touchdowns. He was named Region 3-3A Player of the Year and the 2022 Offensive Player of the Year by the Savannah Quarterback Club.
Merklinger is the sixth 2024 commitment for the Volunteers. He is the highest-rated commitment for the Vols in the class of 2024.
Following Merklinger’s commitment, Tennessee’s 2024 recruiting class is ranked No. 5 nationally and No. 4 in the Southeastern Conference, according to On3.
