Looking at the terms of new Dolphins WR Braxton Berrios’ contract

The money makes it hard to see him cut before the season.

The Miami Dolphins went into this offseason with their top three wide receiver positions secured by Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and Cedrick Wilson.

Their depth was taking a hit, however, as Trent Sherfield and River Cracraft were hitting the market with no guarantee that they’d return.

With that knowledge, Miami went out and addressed the position, bringing in former New Yor Jets wide receiver Braxton Berrios.

According to Over the Cap, Berrios and the Dolphins agreed to a one-year deal that will pay him $3.5 million in 2023. He’ll make $1.5 million in a base salary (fully guaranteed), $1.5 million in a signing bonus and another $500,000 in per-game roster bonuses. His cap hit will be $3.5 million.

This contract makes it hard to imagine that Berrios won’t make the team out of training camp and preseason. If Miami were to cut him, they’d save just $500,000 and still have a $3 million dead cap hit.

Berrios can perform slot duties on offense, making things easier for Tua Tagovailoa, especially without Mike Gesicki to attack the middle of the field. He also could serve as the team’s punt returner, something they’ve lacked since Jakeem Grant was traded to the Chicago Bears in 2021.
