Big 12 Freshman of the Year Keyonte George to declare for NBA draft

George holds the program record for the most 20-point games and 3s in a season by a freshman.

Baylor guard Keyonte George announced this week on social media that he will forgo his remaining college eligibility and declare for the 2023 NBA draft.

George, who was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, averaged 15.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.1 steals in 33 games. He holds the program record for the most 20-point games (12) and 3s in a season by a freshman (77).

His 506 total points are the second-most by a Baylor freshman.

He entered the season known as a tremendous scorer and the former No. 3 recruit proved that throughout the year with the Bears. As a result, he is projected to be a lottery pick this year in the NBA draft given his ability on both ends of the floor.

George has the ability to take over games on offense. He is highly touted for his speed and agility getting downhill, and his knack for getting others involved. He shot 33.8% from 3-point range on 6.9 attempts per game and often pulled up from NBA range throughout the season.

After emerging as one of the top freshmen in program history, George appears to be a lock as a high first-rounder on June 22. He could rise in the lottery after going through the pre-draft process.

Underclassmen have until April 23 to declare for the draft.
