Calais Campbell is a popular man on the free agency market. According to Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell, the team is in the mix to acquire the defensive lineman.
Last week, Campbell visited the Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars. He’s reportedly scheduled to meet with the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills soon, as well.
Unlike the Jaguars, the Lions have plenty of money to spend this offseason. While Jacksonville has taken a conservative approach to free agency after their 2022 spending spree, Detroit is currently third in the NFL in available cap space.
Fixing the defense is a focal point for the Lions this offseason after finishing with the fifth most points scored in 2022 but the most yards allowed in the NFL.
On Monday, Jaguars coach Doug Pederson said his team had a “great visit” with Campbell.
It appears Jacksonville is still interested in a reunion with Campbell, who previously spent three seasons with the team. It’s clear, though, that there will be no shortage of competition for the defensive lineman’s services.
