Texas A&M commit to schedule visit Florida ‘ASAP’

Billy Napier isn’t letting a commitment get in the way of his recruiting, as a top Texas A&M commit is expected to make the trip to Gainesville very soon for a visit.

DJ Lagway, the cornerstone of Florida’s 2024 recruiting class, is considered one of the best players in Texas. It looks like Billy Napier is keen to continue to develop the Texas to Florida pipeline, with the second-year coach bringing in Texas A&M commit [autotag]Dealyn Evans[/autotag] for a visit to Gainesville.

The Longview, Texas, native received an offer from the Orange and Blue on Wednesday setting up a future trip to Gainesville. Speaking to On3’s Gators Online, Evans mentioned how he liked Florida growing up, and that he had been waiting for the Gators’ offer for a while. He even mentioned Lagway specifically, mentioning how close he and the No. 3 QB in the 2024 class are.

The 6-foot-4-inch junior committed to the Aggies last summer, but that hasn’t stopped top programs from going after the 265-pound lineman. On the Florida side, position coach Sean Spencer and recruiting staffer Joe Hamilton have spearheaded Evans’ interactions with the Gators.

With such a high-profile player in the state of Texas, programs like SMU, Kansas State, TCU, and others are also in pursuit of Evans. Of those programs, Texas A&M and Texas are the biggest threats to the Gators’ pursuit, as both programs will be in the SEC when Evans plays his college ball.

Evans is the No. 16 ranked defensive lineman in the country, according to the On3 Consensus. He would be a major addition to a 2024 Florida class that is already the No. 3 class in 2024 according to On3’s 2024 Industry Ranking Football Team Recruiting Rankings. They are currently behind Georgia and Alabama in those rankings.
