The Philadelphia 76ers cruised to a rather easy win over the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night. They led by as many as 31 on their way to a 116-91 victory. The defensive effort was on point, and they jumped to a 23-1 lead. It was an overall impressive performance.
The health of Joel Embiid took precedence after the win, however. The big fella did not play in the second half. NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Kate Scott said it was due to the score being so lopsided, but the team stated it was due to mild calf tightness.
Coach Doc Rivers sounded unconcerned about the injury. He stated it was more about precautions, and they were thinking about the rest of this road trip. Considering they have to board a plane and head to San Francisco for a back-to-back, which includes them going to Phoenix on Saturday, it made sense.
The playoffs are right around the corner and Embiid’s health is the obvious priority. The big fella told The Philadelphia Inquirer:
“Like I always say, it’s all about the playoffs,” said Embiid, adding that he received treatment in the visitors’ locker room during the second half. “Trying to make sure that I get there healthy. We’re just going to see how it goes the next few days. … If it feels good, of course I want to play. But if it’s not right, then we’re going to figure out.”
The Sixers are going to make health the priority at the moment. They have already clinched their playoff spot and they are going to be a high seed in the postseason. They have enough talent to stay afloat and be sure they continue their success even without Embiid. They should be focused on making sure he’s at his best and healthiest for the playoffs.
