The UNC football program brought in quarterback guru Clyde Christensen this offseason to help out in an offensive analyst role. Christensen has years of experience with quarterbacks including coaching both Tom Brady and Peyton Manning at times.
Now, Christensen is brought in to Chapel Hill to work on Mack Brown’s staff and with quarterback Drake Maye, a player that could be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Maye is coming off an impressive first year as a starter for North Carolina and he hopes to continue that into the 2023 season.
As UNC resumed Spring practices, Christensen met the media for the first time since taking the job and had an interesting compliment for Maye.
Christensen said that Maye has a little ‘Andrew Luck in him’:
New #UNC QB guru (volunteer offensive assistant) Clyde Christensen on Drake Maye:
"He has a little bit of Andrew Luck in him just that he's a deceivingly good athlete and can pull the ball down and run. Can make all the throws. He's a big guy."

That’s some high praise for Maye who has also been compared to someone like Justin Herbert as well.
Maye certainly has the skill set to be in the conversation for the top quarterback in college football next season and his stats from last year back that up. The quarterback still has some things to work on but the hope is that with Christensen here on staff, he can fix what the negatives in his game might be.
And if 2023 is anything like last season, then UNC fans are in for another exciting year with Maye.
