Jakobi Meyers named questionable fit for the Raiders

One signing that has gotten mixed reviews has been the addition of WR Jakobi Meyers by the Raiders. Some sites believe that the Raiders absolutely stole Meyers as he’s one of the most consistent and reliable receivers in the league.

But others believe that his fit with the Raiders is a bit redundant with Davante Adams and Hunter Renfrow already on the roster. In a recent article by Pro Football Focus, they named some of the best and most questionable signings from free agency.

That list included Jakboi Meyers as PFF believes his fit with the Raiders doesn’t make a lot of sense. Here is a snippet of what they had to say about the signing by Las Vegas this offseason:

Now, the team has two slot receivers, one outside receiver and whoever plays tight end for them in 11 personnel, where they threw the ball 78% of the time last season. Meyers had some success lining up outside under Josh McDaniels in 2020 and 2021 as a Patriot, and he will more likely have to be that player for the Raiders than Renfrow. In those two seasons, Meyers’ receiving grade while lined up outside was 79.6.

The good news is that you can never have too many pass catchers. And the way to succeed with a quarterback like Jimmy Garoppolo is to surround him with as many weapons as possible.

However, there is a chance that Meyers and Renfrow play too similar of a game and the Raiders need to add a different type of receiver next offseason. But it’s hard to argue with the value and production of Meyers.

It will be fascinating to see how the Raiders use their three stud receivers this season with Garoppolo at quarterback.
