Former Dolphins center Michael Deiter to sign with Texans

He didn’t get a single offensive snap last year.

The Miami Dolphins have done a great job of re-signing their own free agents this offseason. Before Monday evening only Mike Gesicki, Elandon Roberts, Trent Sherfield and Thomas Morstead had left for other teams.

However, as the night came in, KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson reported that former Dolphins center Michael Deiter is expected to sign with the Houston Texans following a visit.

Deiter, 26, was drafted by Miami in the third round of the 2019 draft after a collegiate career at Wisconsin. Originally entering the league as a guard, Deiter transitioned to center for the 2021 season, but a neck injury caused him to miss half of the year.

In 2022, with Connor Williams’ arrival, Deiter was sent to the bench and never saw a single offensive snap, even with injuries to left guard Liam Eichenberg.

The Dolphins don’t have much depth at center with Deiter gone. Dan Feeney, who Miami signed last week from the New York Jets, has some experience at the position, but he’s played more guard in his career.

It wouldn’t be shocking to see general manager Chris Grier address interior offensive line depth late in this year’s draft.
