Former Browns S John Johnson III could be perfect replacement for Terrell Edmunds

The Steelers know Johnson well from his time with the Browns.

On Wednesday, the Cleveland Browns chose to cut safety John Johnson III as a post-June 1 designated cut. This means Johnson’s salary stays on the Browns books until June 1 but he is a free agent and able to sign with any team he wants now.

This pertains to the Pittsburgh Steelers because they could have a significant need for a safety. Pittsburgh was able to re-sign Damontae Kazee but starting strong safety Terrell Edmunds remains a free agent. Last offseason Edmunds and the Steelers did a similar dance with Edmunds testing free agency before returning to the team on a one-year contract. If Edmunds finds free agency more lucrative this time around, Johnson is the perfect replacement.

Johnson topped 100 tackles for the third time in his seven-year career in 2022. Johnson also forced two fumbles, recovered two fumbles and had one interception.

Let us know in the comments if you would be OK with Johnson as a replacement if Edmunds signs somewhere else.
