While it wasn’t the outcome that the Badgers or the Wisconsin fan base were hoping for, there is still a chance to play postseason basketball.
Wisconsin will try and take full advantage of that chance starting on Tuesday night when they host Bradley in the NIT.
“We had plenty of opportunities to better our position,” Wisconsin head coach Greg Gard told reporters on Monday.
There didn’t seem to be even a thought given to not accepting an NIT bid. Just yesterday, North Carolina released a statement that they would not be playing in the NIT if offered a bid. Wisconsin is taking a different approach.
“To continue to grow this year, you always look at propelling you forward, specifically when you got the vast majority of your team returning the following year, this definitely could be advantageous,” said Gard following the news of an NIT bid.
“We wouldn’t be in it if we didn’t think we could try and go win it. We’re not doing this as a recreational activity.”
