Rutgers basketball wasn’t part of ‘Selection Sunday’ in what was one of the most shocking twists of the NCAA Tournament bracket.
Despite holding a solid 18-13 regular season record (10-10 Big Ten) and advancing to the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament, Rutgers was left out of the NCAA Tournament. This despite a number of at-large teams making it with far lesser resume credentials than the Scarlet Knights.
Following a difficult close to the regular season that included losses in three of their last four games, Rutgers seemed to right the ship during the Big Ten Tournament. In the conference tournament’s second round, Rutgers beat Michigan by double-digits. And then in the quarterfinals, they lost by five points to eventual champion Purdue.

Their exclusion was a twist that no one saw coming. At worst, Rutgers seemed destined for a play-in game, not unlike last season.
The Rutgers omission left social media buzzing and Rutgers was trending on Twitter. Check out some of the top tweets about Rutgers being left out of the NCAA Tournament.
