Razorbacks fall in finale against Texas A&M, lose series

Texas A&M jumped on Arkansas early to send the Hogs to a series loss in both teams’ SEC opener.

Texas A&M had just dropped out of the Top 25 softball rankings entering the rank. Odds are, the Aggies will be back next week.

Arkansas lost its opening SEC series Sunday when A&M rolled past the Razorbacks, 9-1, from Bogle Park, to win the series two games to one.

The Aggies jumped on Arkansas starter Chenise Delce for runs in each of the first three innings. They chased her in the third, ultimately scoring five runs in the frame to open a 7-1 lead.

It all came from the sticks as Delce didn’t walk a batter. Instead, A&M had 13 base knocks in the five-inning game, including solo home runs from Trinity Cannon and Morgan Smith.

Arkansas’ lone run came in the second. Already down 2-0, Kacie Hoffman and Lauren Camenzind hit back-to-back doubles to start the inning and Spencer Prigge followed with a walk. But A&M starter Emily Leavitt recorded a strikeout and two foul outs immediately after to limit the Razorbacks.

Arkansas is back for a tune-up Tuesday on the road against Wichita State before heading to Tuscaloosa for a three-game set against Alabama from Saturday to Monday against the Crimson Tide.
