The 2024 recruiting class is a big one for Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program. The Tar Heels have four players committed in the class and it ranks No. 1 in the early rankings.
One player has made a sizable leap in his development since committing to North Carolina in 2022.
In-state forward Drake Powell is really making a name for himself in the 2024 recruiting class. On Saturday, his junior season came to an end with an accolade. Despite Northwood losing in the state championship game, Powell was named the NCHSAA 3A Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament:

Powell scored 17 points in Northwood’s 65-51 loss to Central Cabarrus, which ended his junior year. He played a big role in Northwood getting to the title game, which is great news for UNC.
Since committing to UNC in September 2022, Powell has quickly climbed the recruiting rankings. He climbed 37 spots to No. 19 in the latest 247Sports recruiting rankings and is a five-star prospect, becoming the third for UNC in the 2024 class.
With one year left of high school, Powell can take an even bigger step forward. And if these past few months were any indication, it’s safe to say he will.
