Nick Smith Jr. shot 1 for 10 from the floor after halftime. Ricky Council made one field goal all night. Arkansas was outrebounded, struggled at the free-throw line and made just 25% of its 3-pointers.
Somehow the Razorbacks had built at a 15-point lead, anyway, but with those final numbers, it was little surprise Arkansas ultimately fell Friday night against Texas A&M. The second-seeded Aggies knocked the Hogs out of the SEC Tournament in the quarterfinals with a 67-61 win.
Arkansas is all but guaranteed to be announced in the field when the NCAA Tournament is dropped Sunday, but the Hogs are a team that will have lost four of its last five games heading into into the Dance.
The Razorbacks’ collapse came on various fronts. They shot less than 65% from the free-throw line. They were 25% from 3-point range. Ricky Council, the team’s leading scorer on the season, made one field goal. Nick Smith Jr. went 1 for 10 after halftime. Texas A&M won the rebounding battle by double-digits.
Other than Council, the issues were ones Arkansas had suffered all season. Now the question is whether they’ll still be around in March Madness.
