As the UNC basketball program continues with Spring practices here in March, they have added a new staff member that has NFL ties.
Per Inside Carolina, the program has added Ted Monachino in an analyst role for the upcoming season. Monachino has 16 years of experience in the NFL and 10 more in the college game.
He makes his return to the college game by joining Mack Brown’s staff.
Monachino has made the rounds in the NFL, coaching defensive line with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2006-09), outside linebackers with Baltimore (2010-15), defensive coordinator in Indianapolis (2016-17), outside linebackers with the Chicago Bears (2019-20) and has spent the past two seasons coaching the defensive line in Atlanta.
#UNC is adding veteran NFL defensive coach Ted Monachino in an analyst role. He won a Super Bowl with the Ravens and was the defensive coordinator for the Colts.

Monachino got his start in college at James Madison coaching the defensive line in 1998. From there he made stops at Boise State, Arizona State, Kansas State and Missouri. He has experience coaching the defensive line and as a defensive coordinator and senior analyst at his stops.
The Tar Heels have made a few changes to the staff this offseason losing coaches on both sides of the ball. The addition of Monachino is to hopefully boost the defense, which has struggled the past few seasons. Getting that turned around to go with the offseason should mean good things for the Tar Heels.
