UNC commit Elliot Cadeau makes Swedish senior national team debut

UNC basketball commit Elliot Cadeau made his Swedish senior national team debut, just the second teenager to represent his country in a FIBA event.

Current UNC basketball commit [autotag]Elliot Cadeau[/autotag] continues to put together a stellar amateur career and this time it came on the international stage.

Cadeau played seven minutes in his debut for the Swedish senior national team, scoring four points. It was just the second time a teenager had represented his country in a FIBA event.

“I was very excited and very proud,” Cadeau said. “It was a blessing to put on the Sweden uniform, especially for the men’s team. Not a lot of people my age get to do that. I was really just excited and proud of myself. I was just excited to get on the floor and play with them.”

Sweden is currently playing in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 European Qualifiers.

“I’ve been working really hard,” Cadeau added. “I started to get comfortable with the system these last couple of days practicing with the team. I just wanted to go out and have fun. I was just focused on the game plan and what the team needed from me.”

Cadeau played for Sweden’s FIBA U18 European Championship team last summer, helping them win the title and return to Division A. He averaged 21.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.2 steals throughout that campaign.

The Link Academy (MO) five-star guard is ranked as the No. 11 player in the 2024 class and the No. 2 point guard in the 247Sports rankings.

He was recently named a Naismith All-American honorable mention for his play this season.

Cadeau is part of a four-man 2024 class for the Tar Heels that is currently ranked No. 1 in the country.
