INDIANAPOLIS — Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson is typically viewed as the fourth-best quarterback in the 2023 NFL draft class.
Alabama’s Bryce Young is seen as the favorite, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud is second, and Kentucky’s Will Levis rounds out the trio of top quarterbacks.
The former Gator is a proficient field general in his own right. Richardson completed 176 passes on 327 attempts for 2,549 yards, 17 touchdowns, and nine interceptions through 12 games last season. Richardson also tallied 103 carries for 654 yards and nine touchdowns.
However, Richardson has to shake the term “project” ever so often in his draft evaluations.
Don’t tell Richardson though.
“I don’t even know what that means, ‘project label,'” Richardson said at the NFL combine Friday. “But I want to bring anything and everything they need. I’m going to work hard. I’m dedicated to my craft. I’m just going to be a leader in that organization to just grow and continue to grow.”

The Houston Texans have the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. The Chicago Bears are picking No. 1 overall, and already have a quarterback in place with Justin Fields. Nevertheless the Indianapolis Colts at No. 4, the Las Vegas Raiders at No. 7, and the Carolina Panthers at No. 9 are candidates to work out a trade with Chicago and pick their quarterback first. If the Texans aren’t aggressive, they could be looking at Richardson.
If Houston chooses Richardson, they will get a young quarterback ready to excel immediately, not wait on the bench for half a season.
