Nets’ Spencer Dinwiddie says team ‘didn’t match’ Giannis’ performance

Spencer Dinwiddie reacts to how the Nets didn’t match Giannis’ heightened performance.

Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie has had his share of big moments in the NBA as he’s shown that he can be a clutch player when called upon. However, during his time with the Nets, he has shown to be one of the more candid players in the league during his interviews with the media.

In Tuesday’s 118-104 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, Dinwiddie had 26 points and eight assists as he gave his best effort to help Brooklyn end  Milwaukee’s winning streak at 14 games. However, Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo had different ideas for how the game was going to go as he had 33 points and 15 rebounds in the contest.

Despite Dinwiddie having one of his better games as a member of the Nets, the former Dallas Maverick wasn’t able to help the team overcome the star power of Antetokounmpo in the end. The Bucks used a dominant third quarter to put the game out of reach and that led to Brooklyn head coach Jacque Vaughn emptying his bench with a little under five minutes to go in the game. Dinwiddie reacted to Giannis’ dominance and where Brooklyn went wrong in the second half:

“I don’t think there’s many players in the league that can guard him (Giannis Antetokounmpo) one on one. Obviously, we’re not necessarily the tallest team in the world, biggest in the world. But, we just got to build that wall. And, our activity level should just be extremely, extremely high and try to force turnovers and be active. Maybe, we can take some charges as well. I don’t think we got any. You know, we had a couple of possessions in the first half where we kind of stepped in front or he kind of traveled or whatever. So, things of that nature. I’m just saying like that type of activity that we’ll put our bodies in front of him. But yeah, no, I mean, he turned it up a notch and we didn’t match it.”
