Wherever his future lies, Kenny Omega wants to help ‘next generation’

“I don’t feel like I have too many goals or aspirations of my own anymore.”

Perhaps no wrestler’s future has been as heavily debated over the past few weeks as that of Kenny Omega. That tends to happen when you’re one of the best wrestlers in the world and your contract is reportedly up sometime this year.

(It also only fuels the speculation knowing that someone in Omega’s same position in AEW, Cody Rhodes, departed the company last year.)

If Omega re-signs with AEW, the promotion itself will make sure everyone knows. And if he has his eye on a jump to WWE or elsewhere, he can’t talk about that yet.

But what he did do in his appearance on The Sessions with Renee Paquette (h/t Fightful) is talk about what goals he still has left to accomplish in pro wrestling. Omega said he’s achieved most everything he wants for himself, so his focus is on making sure young talent can reach its full potential.

“I feel like whatever I can contribute to wrestling, I want to be able to help people in the next generation realize their potential as quick as possible or quicker than I was able to,” Omega said to Paquette. “If I can help give anyone advice or push them into a certain direction that can lead to something good for them, career-wise, down the road, that is where I like to see myself. I don’t feel like I have too many goals or aspirations of my own anymore.

“As the checklist started to fill up, and I’m so thankful and grateful that I was able to (achieve those things), it became so much less about me and became more about ‘well, I’ve got this resume now,’ and I know that I’m breaking down and I know there are people that have 10-15 years on me and they can much easier, and with much less of a struggle, get to where I am today and maybe I can save them some mental anguish or being away from their family a couple more years if I can help them. That’s the position I feel I’m in right now.”

Do those answers provide any insight into Omega’s next move? He could help serve as a resource for up and comers in just about any company, and certainly in AEW or WWE.

So maybe it’ll come down to whether or not he does have one more itch to scratch in terms of working in the one major promotion he hasn’t in any meaningful capacity. Regardless, it’s comforting to know that Omega, one of the best of his generation, is already thinking about providing his wisdom to the next.
