Charlie Creme of ESPN has his weekly bracketology update out today. With conference tournament week here, his latest update is very noticeable.
The USC Trojans shouldn’t have to worry too much. They are a 10-seed in the latest update (the same as the men) and would face Creighton in the Round of 68. Other teams in the region include Maryland, Duke, and Texas, and the one seed is Stanford.
This is jarring, however: USC was an 8 seed last week after losing to Cal. We thought USC would be a 10 seed in that edition of bracketology. USC won two games this week and dropped from an 8 to a 10.
You will also note that Washington State is identified as a team moving down in Creme’s bracket, while UCLA is moving up. Washington State won at UCLA this past week. We don’t understand what Charlie Creme is doing.
There are seven Pac-12 teams in Creme’s latest bracketology, and there is a chance one more makes the fold. For now, the seven teams are Stanford, Colorado, Utah, USC, UCLA, Arizona, and Washington State.
One team, the Oregon Ducks, are listed as a “First Four Out” team and are the first team of the four listed, meaning a win in the Pac-12 Tournament against Washington on Wednesday could be enough to move them into the field.
When the Pac-12 Women’s Tournament begins on Wednesday, Oregon-Washington and USC-Oregon State are the two notable games. The Trojans are basically locked in after a terrific regular season by Lindsay Gottlieb.
This could be the year both the USC men’s and women’s teams make the NCAA Tournament, if the men can hold up their end of the bargain.
