The North Carolina Tar Heels did what they needed to do on Saturday afternoon, taking down No. 6 Virginia. It was a must-win game for Hubert Davis’ team, and they held a double-digit lead for most of the game.
The win also gave UNC its first Quad 1 win, an important metric for the NCAA Tournament. But North Carolina didn’t move up in the latest NCAA Net rankings released on Sunday morning.
UNC stayed at No. 47 overall despite beating Virginia, which was a top 30 team. Virginia moved down seven spots from No. 21 to No. 28 and now that Quad 1 win could be disappearing soon.
Virginia fell seven spots on the NET rankings to 28 (it can't fall below 30 for UNC's win to still be a Quad 1 on Selection Sunday). More vexing? Carolina stayed at 47th in the NET after the win. #UNC

If Virginia loses to either Clemson or Louisville next week, it likely will fall out of the top 30. If that happens, it will not longer be a Quad 1 win for North Carolina.
The Tar Heels can earn another one by beating Duke on Saturday and Michigan is also creeping up to the top 50. UNC beat the Wolverines on a neutral court back in December which would qualify for a Quad 1 win if they can get into that top 50.
