The UNC basketball program has a very important final four games left of the regular season over the next two weeks.
Going into Wednesday’s game at Notre Dame, the Tar Heels are on the wrong side of the bubble following losses to Miami and NC State last week. The Tar Heels are team No. 69 in Joe Lunardi’s latest bracketology and need some help to get in. Ideally, they need to win four straight and more importantly avoid bad losses to Notre Dame and Florida State on the road.
While the Tar Heels resume isn’t a great one, Lunardi points out that its generous to have UNC as the first team out:
The Tar Heels lost the latest “save their season” game at NC State on Sunday and now carry the burden of an 0-9 Quadrant 1 record into the final two weeks of the schedule. UNC sits as “First Team Out” in this latest bracket update, which is probably generous, and is running out of time to do anything about it. With just four games remaining before the ACC tournament, the Heels (16-11, 8-8) would appear to need to win at least three or face an AQ-or-bust scenario in Greensboro next month. Raise your hand if that seems likely.
Lunardi has a point.
The Tar Heels really need to find a way to win out and at worst, win three of the four games. They will have a quad 1 chance against Virginia and likely Duke as well. But avoiding the bad losses will be key too, which is something they’ve managed to do all year.
The tournament officially begins on Wednesday for the Tar Heels against Notre Dame.
