The NBA world has a new household name, Philadelphia 76ers guard Mac McClung. The young man who has two NBA games under his belt put on an absolute show in the dunk contest on Saturday night when he took home the award with four impressive dunks.
McClung scored three dunks with 50 points and the fourth earned 49 points from the judges. He was impressive, and he saved an All-Star event that was really losing its luster over the years.
“Really just grateful,” McClung told reporters after the contest. “I had a lot of help. It wasn’t just me. I had Chuck (Millan) and my best friends calling me every night trying to give me ideas. It was a lot of fun out there.”
The young guard out of Texas Tech has been in the G League all season; he has not played a game for the Sixers though he signed a two-way deal just before the All-Star break.
“I’m super grateful for this opportunity,” added McClung. “I think a lot of guys in the G League probably deserve this light that I just got. I’m very appreciative and I hope I represented well for them, and I really appreciate the NBA giving us this opportunity.”
As far as his newfound fame, McClung is taking a humble route. He still has a long way to become a regular NBA rotational player.
“Just a lot of gratitude,” McClung added. “I had so much help with this with Chuck and Chase (Skinkis) and all my friends. A lot of it was their help, to be honest with you.”
