John Schneider says Seahawks have had ‘good talks’ with Geno Smith

While no actual specifics have been reported, both parties say the negotiations are going well.

The first order of business for the Seahawks this offseason – or at least the most important item – should be re-signing quarterback Geno Smith. While no actual specifics have been reported, both parties say the negotiations are going well. Two weeks ago Smith told Sirius XM that the contract talks are “looking very good.”

General manager John Schneider echoed the same sentiment in his interview on ESPN 710 yesterday. Schneider says the team has had “good talks” with Smith so far, but as expected offered no details.

Of course, Schneider and Pete Carroll never let on publicly last year that things with Russell Wilson were anything but good, so fans should take this with a grain of salt.

Still, it makes sense for both sides to stick together. Smith is worth more to the Seahawks than anyone else and they won’t find anybody better to run their offense, at least for this year.

Then again there’s no guarantee they will come to an agreement, especially because Smith’s situation is very unique as far as contract negotiations go.
