We have already talked about how the Pittsburgh Steelers offense needs to add some complexity to the offense next season and even current players have talked about how the offense didn’t even allow checks at the line. Now, former Buffalo Bills GM Doug Whaley has chimed in about the problem with the Matt Canada offense.
Whaley went on 93.7 TheFan and didn’t hold back about the oversimplistic nature of Canada’s offense.
“The offensive system and game planning leaves a lot to be desired,” Whaley said. “Do you ever see the Steelers offense setting up a play 50 minutes before? Do you ever see the Steelers offense putting a guy in motion to expose what the defense is doing?”
The Steelers chose to keep Canada after the season despite the team finishing 26th in the NFL in scoring and 13th in the NFL in yards. Other teams, teams that made the playoffs gutted out their coaching staffs to upgrade while Pittsburgh stood pat and made no changes. It is hard to imagine it will be sustainable next season but this remains to be seen.
