KenPom gives Florida basketball a one-spot lift in rankings update

The Gators pretty much stayed level overall in the KenPom rankings but continues to fall in the adjusted defense metric.

The Gators kept their postseason hopes alive with a win over the Ole Miss Rebels in Gainesville Wednesday night, 79-64. While the Quadrant 3 matchup did not move the needle much for the Orange and Blue, a second-straight loss to a Quad 3 team would have very likely ended any hopes of making the NCAA Tournament.

Alas, Florida cruised to victory in its must-not-lose game and improved to 14-12 on the season with a 7-6 mark in Southeastern Conference competition. Entering the matchup ranked No. 49 in the Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings the team moved up one spot to No. 48 following the win.

The Gators’ adjusted offensive ranking improved seven spots since our last update, moving up to No. 132 while Florida’s adjusted defensive ranking dropped once again — this time from No. 13 to No. 16 overall.

Next up for Florida are the Arkansas Razorbacks, who visit the Gators inside the O’Connell Center on Saturday, Feb. 18. The ‘Backs are currently ranked No. 22 in KenPom. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST and can be watched on ESPN2 or heard on the Gator Sports Network.
