ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky has really been loving what the Carolina Panthers have done lately, specifically with their coaching staff. Heck, he could hardly contain his excitement in trying to get this tweet together . . .
The @Panthers staff has become on the best best in NFL

He’s also loving a potential match for the Panthers under center. The former quarterback joined The Rich Eisen Show on Tuesday, and said he believes the most sensical spot for new free agent Derek Carr is in Carolina.
“I really think it’s the Carolina Panthers,” Orlovsky replied when asked what Carr’s best fit is. “One—Carolina’s got a tremendous staff that Frank Reich is putting together. I know everyone is saying Tampa and New Orleans—they’re both $50 million plus over the cap. So, if you’re Derek Carr, do those teams look good right now as far as appealing when it comes to one—I don’t know who the play caller is in Tampa. And then two—what’s the team gonna look like after you pay me $35, $40 million? What is that team then going to look like when it comes to some pieces they’d have to move on from financially?
“Carolina’s really good on defense, young offensive line that I think got a chance to a top-10 unit, DJ Moore very good, two backs, Frank Reich.”
Carr was officially released by the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday afternoon. Given the timing of his departure, he’s free and clear from the restrictions of the new league year and can sign with his next team whenever he wishes.
Orlovsky’s sentiment has been echoed by some oddsmakers as well. The Panthers are a favorite, along with the Saints, to sign the four-time Pro Bowl passer.
Here are Orlovsky’s thoughts on the situation in their entirety:
