2023 NFL draft: Where will the Chiefs pick in the first round?

The #Chiefs currently hold pick No. 31 in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft.

After the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, the first three rounds of the 2023 NFL draft saw their order locked in until a certain point. The league will release compensatory pick selections in March at which point the entire draft order will be revealed.

In a typical year, picking at No. 31 would mean that the season ended on a sour note. This time around, the Chiefs have the Miami Dolphins to thank for that. They forfeited their first-round draft pick in 2023 for tampering with former Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady. As a result, there are only 31 picks in the first round.

As the winner of Super Bowl LVII, the Chiefs will have pick No. 31. The last time the team held pick No. 31 was following their Super Bowl LV loss to the Buccaneers. They traded that pick to acquire LT Orlando Brown Jr. from the Baltimore Ravens. They’ve only once drafted a player at pick No. 31, selecting Michigan OT Trezelle Jenkins back in the 1995 NFL draft.

What will Brett Veach do with the pick this time around? With the 2023 NFL draft set for Kansas City, it’s hard to imagine him trading the team’s first-round pick away. However, if it helps the team secure another championship as the move for Brown Jr. did, there won’t be many fans questioning the move.
