Top-ranked 2023 wide receiver looking to visit Florida in March

Florida could host the top wide receiver in the class next month once the dead period is lifted.

Despite committing to Ohio State University in December, the top-ranked wide receiver in the recruiting class of 2024, [autotag]Jeremiah Smith[/autotag], is still looking at other programs.

One of the schools still keeping in touch with Smith is Florida, according to Gators Online’s Corey Bender, and the five-star recruit is looking to get back to Gainesville over the spring.

“I’m trying to find a date. Yeah, next month,” Smith told Bender when asked about a March visit. “I have a great relationship with Florida, especially with Coach KC (Keary Colbert) and (running backs quality control coach) Coach (Benedick) Hyppolite.”

Florida is still pushing very hard for Smith. In fact, Smith says that Florida has only picked up the pace since he committed to another program. The coaching staff’s continued attention has been nice, but perhaps what’s helping Florida stay in the race most is that five-star quarterback [autotag]DJ Lagway[/autotag] is under commitment.

Getting Smith to back off his pledge to Ohio State will be nearly impossible, though. He wanted to commit as a sophomore almost a year ago and was told to wait and see what everyone else has to offer.

Now that he’s locked in with the Buckeyes, it will take a better-than-perfect official visit to the Swamp for Florida to flip him. A March unofficial visit is a step toward securing that official visit, so Florida is still in the mix for now.

Smith is ranked No. 2 overall on the On3 consensus and No. 1 among wide receivers in the class of 2024. The 247Sports composite has him at the same spots.
