Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas has shown what he is capable of when given the time essentially ever since Kyrie Irving wanted out of Brooklyn. Irving’s trade request became public on Friday and starting with the Nets’ game Saturday against the Washington Wizards, Thomas has scored at least 43 points in every contest.
Along with that, with Tuesday’s performance of scoring 43 points in the 116-112 loss to the Phoenix Suns, he became the youngest player in NBA history to score at least 40 points in three straight games. It cannot be overstated how great Thomas has been lately.
Thomas’ performance over the last three games isn’t solely because of Kyrie Irving leaving. While Irving was on the roster, Thomas has had a few great games, such as when he scored 33 points against the Indiana Pacers on Dec. 10. Thomas maintains that he has always been the bucket-getter that he looks like right now, he just needed the playing time to show that. Thomas gave his reaction to his new scoring milestone after the game:
“Yeah, it’s real surreal. I’m just glad to have my name in history books being as young. Obviously, I’d rather have the win because it sounds better when you have these 40 point games with the two wins that we lost. But it’s just good. Have my name in history. I’m still going to embrace it. Me being young, you still want to embrace your accolades. And, just be proud of yourself to be proud of all the hard work you put in. So, that’s really the main thing.”
