BREAKING: Alabama set to hire Kevin Steele as defensive coordinator

According to Chris Low, Miami defensive coordinator Kevin Steele is set to become Alabama’s defensive coordinator. He previously had two stints at Alabama under Nick Saban.

On Sunday, ESPN’s Chris Low reported that Kevin Steele was set to become Alabama’s next defensive coordinator. The news comes less than 24 hours after rumors circulated saying that Steele was the frontrunner to replace Pete Golding.

Steele has been on Nick Saban’s staff on two different occasions. In 2007, he served as Alabama’s defensive coordinator, Saban’s first year as head coach at Alabama.

After spending two seasons with the Crimson Tide, he left to be the defensive coordinator at Clemson. That stint was short-served as he left after two seasons with the program. Soon after, he returned to Alabama as the director of player personnel and linebackers coach.

Since he left Tuscaloosa in 2014, he has served as the defensive coordinator at LSU, Auburn, and Miami.

If this hire indicates anything, it could be that Steele is a temporary replacement. With Jeremy Pruitt trying to return to the coaching field, that is something to monitor as well. Whatever the case may be, it will be interesting to see how Steele’s defense looks in 2023.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Alabama football program and other news surrounding Alabama athletics.
