Overwatch 2 cheaters are just as prevalent as they ever were, but if you benefit from their illicit activities in the multiplayer game, Blizzard won’t let you get off without penalty anymore. Blizzard announced in a new Defense Matrix blog post that anyone who teams up with cheaters will be subject to severe suspension penalties and, in some cases, permanent account bans.
“Players who knowingly group up with cheaters are looking to take the same advantage as those who use cheats themselves, including boosting their accounts to skill levels they would not normally belong in with their own skill,” Blizzard said in the blog post.
“Doing so creates unfair and imbalanced matches for many in our community and does not live up to our core value of Play Nice, Play Fair.”
The penalties aren’t for players who accidentally team up with an unusually accurate Widowmaker a few times. Blizzard said the anti-cheat team will look for patterns of players who don’t use cheats going out of their way to regularly team up with players whose accounts are flagged as cheaters.
Since Overwatch 2‘s rough launch in October 2022, Blizzard has taken action against more than 50,000 accounts for cheating. The team asked once again that players take the time to report disruptive behavior of any flavor, whether it’s suspected cheating or abusive language.
