Steelers avoid international games in 2023

The Steelers won’t play an international game next season.

On Thursday, the NFL announced which teams will be playing international games in the 2023 season. The Pittsburgh Steelers were once again very fortunate that they will not have an international game on their 2023 schedule.

Here is the rundown from the press release:

The National Football League today announced the five teams set to play in the 2023 International Games. The Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots will each play international games during the 2023 regular season.

The NFL has been playing games on international soil since 2007. The Steelers have only played once since its inception. Back in 2013, the Steelers took on the Minnesota Vikings at Wembley Stadium. The Vikings beat the Steelers 34-27.

Pittsburgh has a huge international fanbase, especially in Mexico. This makes it somewhat surprising the NFL hasn’t tried to do more to cash in on that popularity by sending the Steelers out.
