Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson gets a raise for returning to Detroit

Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson will get a raise for returning to the Detroit Lions in 2023, per Ian Rapoport

Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson rewarded the team taking a chance on him and trusting him to unleash his creative, aggressive offense in Detroit by returning to the Lions for another season.

Now the Lions are rewarding Johnson for choosing to shun head coaching interviews elsewhere. According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, Johnson and the Lions have agreed to a new contract that will give the second-year offensive coordinator a lucrative raise.

Johnson’s salary in 2022, his first season as a coordinator, is publicly unknown. Coordinators generally earn around $1M-$1.5M per season, though that varies with experience level and team.

Coaching compensation does not impact the team’s salary cap.
